My son’s birthday is coming up, and I’m trying to come up with the perfect gift for him. I want it to beat last year’s idea that inspired this text my son sent to me, “Thank you sooooo much for making this happen!!! This is like a dream come true for me!!!!”
What did I do?
My son began powerlifting when he was 16. His dedication is awe-inspiring.
Even though he has a coach, he watches lots of videos and incorporates ideas offered by some of the lifters he admires most.
I thought it might be fun for my son to have an online coaching session or a conversation with one of these admired lifters.
I told him my gift idea, and he was blown away.
I asked him to choose the person and think about what he would like to accomplish.
My son chose Cailer Woolam who held the world’s deadlift record. Cailer weighed 215 lbs and deadlifted 953 lbs.
I sent Cailer a single email:
Hi Cailer,
This is an odd request.
May I hire you to have a one hour consult with my 25-year-old son who power lifts and follows/respects/is inspired by you?
You can name your fee.
Thank you!
Vicki Rackner MD
Within an hour I got an email from Cailer saying he would be happy to do it, and invited my son to schedule a good time.
It can be so easy to make dreams come true!
Why don’t people make it happen more often?
- They don’t consider it. My son has been watching Cailer’s videos for years. He just never imagined that he could have a 1:1 conversation with him.
- They don’t think it’s possible. My son could have asked, “Why would Cailer talk to me?”
- They’re afraid that they will hear no. When I offered this gift to my son, I told him that Cailer might say no. I told him that I will just keep reaching out to people he admired until I heard yes!
- They think it will be too hard or too expensive. I was able to set this consult up with a single email. I was prepared to pay $500 for the consult; Cailer charged $70.
- They fear disappointment. What if this person is not who he represents himself to be?
I could argue that you are in the business of making your clients’ dream come true.
How well do you understand your clients’ hopes and dreams?
How well do you know YOUR hopes and dreams?
The holiday season is right around the corner.
Imagine if you gave the gift of making people’s dreams come true! Maybe it’s the dream of what you want for your business—which is why you’re in this community. Maybe it’s tuning into your clients’ dreams. Maybe it’s your loved one’s dreams.
Then ask, “How could I translate a dream into reality.” Let my son inspire you!
The people who surround you, the ideas to which you expose yourself to and the habits you embrace create your reality. You can elevate your life by reaching up.
This holiday season and into 2025, I invite you to consider giving the gift of dreams.
